There Oughta Be a Law.

As you'll learn in our Mock Constitutional Convention. Getting ideas passed by a majority of people who all represent different interests is difficult. Congress is the legislature and has the powers to make laws- but only where the Constitution gives it the power to make laws. Any Law starts as a bill that must be approved by committee, passed by a majority in one house, and then be approved by a committee in the other house before being passed by a majority in that 2nd house. If there are any changes, a conference committee meets to work on a common, identical bill for each house to vote on again. Then, once a bill passes both houses, it then goes to the president to be signed into law. It can then be vetoed by the president. A presidential veto can be overridden by a 2/3 majority vote in each house...

But- every bill starts out as a good idea. What issues do you care about ? What problems does our nation need to fix ? How can our country be improved for laws ?

Remember- a law passed by Congress and signed by the President applies to the whole country. Sometimes things are best handled at the state or local level.

What do you think ? In your opinion there oughta be a law about what ?
